This section of our website features quartz with inclusions, plus lemon quartz (which doesn’t occur naturally), green quartz, and white quartz, also known as milky quartz.
Quartz with inclusions is also known as included quartz. Rutilated quartz and tourmalinated quartz are the most common varieties.
Different minerals and substances can become trapped in a crystal during its early formation. Inclusions can be almost anything, but water, petroleum, and gas are the most common.
When present in abundance, inclusions can alter the crystal’s colour and create interesting patterns and optical effects.
Chatoyance, aventurescence, schiller, and asterism are different optical phenomena caused by inclusions.
