Rhodonite is often confused with rhodochrosite. Although the colour can be similar they're two different minerals.
The name 'rhodonite' comes from the Greek word 'rhodon' meaning 'rose' because of its colour.
Rhodonite often features distinctive markings caused by manganese oxides.
This pinkish-red mineral crystallises in masses which means crystals grow as one large tightly intergrown mass.
Although relatively rare, rhodonite can be found in many locations around the world.
