Angelite is a trade name used for a blue variety of anhydrite. The name should only be used for material from Peru.
Stone from any other country should be known simply as blue anhydrite.
Angelite should not be allowed to get wet. The mineral anhydrite absorbs water naturally from the environment. As it becomes hydrated, it turns into gypsum.
When used for healing, angelite is associated with the angelic realm. The heart of its healing ability centres around calmness, peace and tranquillity.
Angelite is relatively soft and brittle so must be handled carefully.
Its subtle blue colour comes from impurities of iron.
