Angelite is a trade name used to describe a blue variety of anhydrite. The name should only be used for material from Peru. Stone from any other country should be known simply as blue anhydrite.
Angelite should not be allowed get wet. The mineral anhydrite absorbs water naturally from the environment. As it becomes hydrated it turns into gypsum.
When used for its healing properties angelite is associated with the angelic realm. The heart of its healing ability centres around calmness, peace and tranquility.
Angelite is a relatively soft and brittle stone so must be handled carefully.
Its blue colour comes from impurities of iron.
