Rose quartz is one of the most popular varieties of the mineral quartz.
It's widely used as a carving material and for its healing properties.
When used as a gemstone rose quartz tends to be cut as a cabochon. This is because it's slightly cloudy which is enhanced when a stone is faceted.
Rose quartz crystallises in masses which means it grows as one large shapeless mass. Well formed crystals have never been found.
There is another type of pink quartz that does form distinctive crystals. This material often referred to as 'pink quartz' is far more scarce and has a different chemical composition.
The colour of rose quartz can vary from the most subtle shade of pink to one that's rich and distinctive. It rarely fades when exposed to heat or UV light.
The rough and polished rose quartz in our collection comes primarily from South Africa, Brazil and Madagascar.
