Kyanite is a beautiful translucent mineral that's not particularly common.
It's an aluminium silicate which is a chemical compound of aluminium, silicon and oxygen.
Kyanite is best known for its long slender crystals which are known as blades. The most common colour is blue ranging from pale blue to intense sapphire-blue.
Although brittle, kyanite is widely used in industry because of its hardness. Crystals can withstand very high temperatures.
It's a difficult mineral to cut so is rarely used as a gemstone. Stones that are cut in this way tend to be faceted but often have surface imperfections.
When used for crystal healing kyanite is one of only a few crystals that doesn't accumulate negative energy.
