Premium-Grade Kyanite Spheres - Finely Polished
These blue kyanite spheres have been finely polished to a vitreous lustre. Both were individually chosen for our collection of rocks and minerals.
Kyanite is a natural mineral that is anisotropic, meaning it has different physical properties in different directions, unlike isotropic materials, which are the same in all directions.
When raw kyanite is tested along its length, its hardness is approximately 4 to 4.5 on the Mohs scale. Across the width of the same crystal, it measures between 6 and 7.
Kyanite is widely used in industry due to its high resistance to heat, making it ideal for refractory materials and ceramics.
Although best known for its blue colour, kyanite also occurs in white, grey, green, and even colourless varieties.
The larger of these two kyanite crystal spheres weighs 258 grams with a diameter of 5.3 centimetres. The smaller sphere weighs 161.2 grams and has a diameter of 4.7 centimetres.
Each kyanite sphere comes with a natural hematite ring, which makes an elegant and suitable support.
