Rutilated Quartz Cut Gemstone

Rutilated quartz is best known for its golden-yellow inclusions but they can also be black or deep reddish-brown.

Stones with red inclusions are not as common, so are highly sought after.

The inclusions in this type of quartz are crystals of the mineral rutile. They grow slowly in different directions and speeds over millions of years.

Rutile, composed of titanium dioxide, forms hard, metallic, slender crystals.

The hair-like crystals in this pear-shaped gemstone reflect light beautifully.
