One of the many beauties of natural minerals is that no two pieces are ever the same. These three quartz towers are all colourless and fully transparent yet each one is unique.
This type of quartz is also known as rock crystal.
Capturing the magic of clear quartz in a photo is not easy. Pieces like this are far more beautiful once in your hand.
The piece in the middle which is number 2 has an anomaly running across the "back". It can be seen in our photos. Under powerful magnification it looks as if it could be a surface reaching internal fracture.
It can just about be felt on the surface of the quartz so it is possible it may have happened whilst the crystal was being cut. It's being offered at a slightly reduced price.
These quartz crystal towers were cut from material mined in South Africa.
The rainbow that can be seen in the middle piece of quartz in our last photo is being caused by refraction of light. The crystal is acting as a prism.
