Large Crystal of the Mineral Pyrite

Cubes are one of the simplest and most common shapes for a crystal. Correctly known as isometric, crystals that occur in this crystal habit have similar dimensions in all directions.

Pyrite is also known as fools gold because it's often mistaken for gold. When placed side by side however these two natural minerals look quite different.

Gold is far more yellow and also much heavier. Despite pyrite being a harder mineral it's also brittle.

Gold is soft and malleable so were it to be struck repeatedly with a hammer it would just become flatter and flatter. 

The metallic reflective surface of pyrite makes it a particularly eye-catching material.
