Impressive Smoky Quartz Crystal Cluster
A magnificent cluster of smoky quartz crystals in various sizes. Some are too small to be seen in our photos.
This smoky quartz crystal cluster is from the Ouachita (wosh-i-taw) and Ozark mountains, which stretch from west central Arkansas to southeastern Texas in the United States.
Very dark brown smoky quartz crystals are often known as morion.
The colour of smoky quartz is caused by natural radiation interacting with impurities of aluminium.
Embedded in rock matrix with a partial covering of sparkling calcite crystals, each translucent, terminated crystal exhibits a vitreous lustre, so reflects light beautifully. Even the base of this smoky quartz cluster has so much to offer.
The Ouachita Mountains, located within the Ouachita National Forest, are one of the few areas in the world where high-quality quartz crystals can be found in abundance.
