Natural Carnelian Crystals from Brazil
Superior-grade carnelian crystals with exceptional colour. From Bahia, northeastern Brazil.
Much of the commercial-grade carnelian on the market is treated agate. One of the most common treatments involves soaking agate in a sugar solution and heating it in sulphuric acid. This process carbonises the sugar, creating a deep reddish-brown colour that mimics natural carnelian.
Another common method is simple heat treatment, which enhances the stone’s iron content and intensifies its orange-red hues.
Treated agate that mimics carnelian often retains visible banding, a typical characteristic of most agates.
These crystals are natural carnelian, so the colour can vary from piece to piece.
The size of these stones varies from small to large. This listing is for the larger sizes. The smaller sizes are available here.
