Translucent Carnelian Crystals - Brazil
Superior-grade carnelian tumbled stones with a deep, reddish-orange colour. From Bahia, northeastern Brazil.
Much of the commercial-grade carnelian on the market is treated agate. One of the most common treatments involves soaking stones in a sugar solution, then heating them in sulphuric acid. This carbonises the sugar, creating a deep reddish-brown colour that mimics natural carnelian.
Another common practice is a simple heat treatment, which enhances the iron content and intensifies the stone's orange-red hues.
Treated agate often retains visible banding, a typical characteristic of most agates.
These crystals are natural carnelian, so the colour can vary from piece to piece.
The size of these tumbled stones is small to medium. Size does vary from piece to piece. They're also available in larger sizes, which are here.
