Natural Carnelian Crystals from Brazil
Superior-grade carnelian crystals from Bahia, northeastern Brazil.
Much of the commercial-grade carnelian on the market is treated agate. One of the most common treatments involves soaking agate in a sugar solution and heating it in sulphuric acid. This process carbonises the sugar, creating a deep reddish-brown colour that mimics natural carnelian.
Another common method is simple heat treatment, which enhances the stone’s iron content and intensifies its orange-red hues.
Treated agate that mimics carnelian often retains visible banding, a typical characteristic of most agates.
These crystals are natural carnelian, so the colour can vary from piece to piece.
These carnelian tumbled stones have been lightly polished to retain the natural character of the raw mineral.
Size varies from medium to extra-large.
For smaller quantities, we'll choose larger stones (subject to availability), but for larger quantities, sizes will be mixed.
