Rose Quartz Point-Shaped Carving
Rose quartz in this shape is often mis-sold as a rose quartz crystal. By that I mean a naturally occurring individual crystal as opposed to rocks and minerals used for their metaphysical healing properties.
A great deal of confusion exists regarding the two different uses of the word "crystals".
Rose quartz doesn't form individual crystals so shapes like this have been cut from a larger piece of stone. They've been cut to mimic the shape of a natural crystal.
The crystal habit in which rose quartz occurs is massive which means it forms as a large shapeless mass. In minerals that crystallise in this way individual crystal faces may not be as well defined or visible as they would be in other types of quartz.
It's fairly common for rose quartz to have a smooth curved surface instead of the sharp angular faces associated with well-formed crystals.
The fact this pink variety of quartz crystallises in masses makes it quite unique. This is because most types quartz exhibit well-formed crystals.
Although rose quartz has many of the same physical and chemical properties of other types of quartz, it forms under different conditions which results in a different crystalline structure.
The top section of this rose quartz terminated point (the crystal faces) have been polished. The bottom part has just been treated with a resin or other protective coating to help preserve its natural beauty and prevent damage.
