Polished Amethyst Crystals
A unique collection of natural amethyst crystals from our collection of rocks and minerals. Although some may look similar each one is unique in its own way. The one characteristic they all have in common is a slight variation in colour. Some are subtly included with what we believe to be citrine.
The range of colour in which amethyst occurs varies from a subtle shade of lilac to deep purple. Colour zoning is relatively common. This characteristic means colour is rarely uniform throughout the crystal.
Catherine the Great was very fond of amethyst and amassed a large collection from the Ural Mountains in Russia. Wallis Simpson was also a fan and was often seen wearing an amethyst, turquoise and diamond necklace designed by Cartier.
Camilla Queen Consort has also been seen wearing an amethyst and pearl necklace that once belonged to the Queen Mother.
The colour of amethyst is sensitive to heat and sunlight. If exposed to either for any length of time the colour will gradually fade. In extreme circumstances it may even turn yellow or brown.
Please remember these are natural crystals. Continual polishing leads to more of the mineral becoming lost. For this reason pieces like this are rarely polished to perfection. Minerals are priced according to weight so to retain value you don't want to be losing more of the natural mineral than absolutely necessary.
