Amazonite Fine Polished Stones

Amazonite is a feldspar mineral that's usually quite easy to identify.  Although some material can exhibit slight chatoyance, this optical phenomenon is best seen in tigers eye, chrysoberyl and some coloured varieties of moonstone.

Amazonite is a variety of microcline but only blue-green coloured stone is known as amazonite. 

Despite also being called Amazon Stone it's not found anywhere near the River Amazon.  At the time of being named it's believed to have been mistaken for another mineral that is found there.  That stone is reported to be nephrite jade. 

These amazonite stones are really beautiful pieces.  They're highly polished and boast subtle colour and markings.  They have an incredibly smooth texture which makes them wonderfully tactile.

These amazonite polished stones were cut and polished from material mined in Brazil.
