Amazonite Crystals from Brazil
Premium-grade Amazonite crystals carefully chosen for our collection of rocks and minerals.
Amazonite, also known as Amazon Stone, is the blue-green variety of microcline. Microcline is a common feldspar mineral.
Only blue-green varieties of microcline are known as amazonite. The stone's colour comes primarily from lead.
In the past, amazonite came mostly from Miyask in the Ilmen Mountains near Chelyabinsk, Russia. More recently, it has been found in Colorado and a few other locations in the United States. Amazonite is also found in Madagascar.
Although named after the Amazon River in Brazil, the stone is not found there. It's believed to have been confused with another mineral found around the same time in that location. That stone is believed to be nephrite jade.
These grade-A amazonite crystals are medium-sized tumbled stones, but size can vary from piece to piece.
