Septarian Spheres from South Africa
Beautifully polished septarian spheres, carefully chosen for our collection of rocks and minerals.
Although often described as a mineral, septarian is a rock, more correctly known as a septarian nodule or concretion.
Often described as a geological curiosity, septarian is composed of calcite, aragonite, and limestone.
Formed around the time dinosaurs disappeared, this distinctive stone is a kind of prehistoric mud ball.
Although well polished, septarian often has minor indentations or anomalies.
The spheres in our first two photos are number 1.
