Polished Septarian Carving
A finely polished, freestanding Septarian nodule carving.
Septarian, correctly known as a
Septarian nodule or concretion, formed 50 to 70 million years ago during the Cretaceous period.
This distinctive sedimentary rock is composed of aragonite, yellow calcite, and limestone.
Septarian concretions form when mineral-rich water seeps into cracks within hardened mud, filling them with calcite and aragonite crystals over millions of years.
The outer shell, composed of limestone, creates the characteristic cracked, mosaic appearance unique to Septarian.
This striking carving has been polished to a vitreous lustre, so it reflects light beautifully.
