Rainbow calsilica is a manmade material first introduced in 2002.
Those behind its production tried to pass it off as a natural stone from Chihuahua in Mexico.
Having been carefully analysed, it was confirmed that rainbow calsilica was made of crushed calcium carbonate.
It also showed traces of various artificial dyes. Plastic-like stabilizers, one of which was a paraffin derivative, were also found.
The story behind the production of rainbow calsilica makes an interesting read.
We only have a small selection of rainbow calsilica because it's not being restocked.
Each cabochon has been mounted in a handcrafted sterling silver setting.
