Dendritic Pink Opal from Peru
High-grade dendritic pink opal stones with exceptional colour and markings. Each piece has been beautifully polished, giving it a smooth, silky texture.
Pink opal, which is a type of common opal, has the same chemical composition as precious opal, but it doesn't exhibit 'play of colour'.
Most of the world's pink opal comes from Peru and Western Australia.
Dendritic inclusions form from other minerals, most commonly manganese oxides. They typically appear as tree- or branch-like patterns, but can also show as irregular black patches with no defined shape.
They form when manganese-bearing fluids move through microfractures in the rock. Over time, usually due to oxidation, the dissolved manganese precipitates and crystallises, forming fine, branching patterns along these pathways.
