Pink opal is a type of common opal. Its chemical composition is almost identical to precious opal with the only exception being it doesn't exhibit 'play of colour'.
Common opals which can be found in many countries around the world occur in a variety of colours. Pink comes predominantly from Peru and Western Australia.
