Nephrite Jade Crystals from Canada

The colour of these nephrite jade crystals varies from a subtle shade of green to grey to white.  No two pieces are the same but we only have a limited number available.  

Jade has been used in China for more than 5000 years and has played a part in almost every aspect of Chinese life and culture.  Its history can be traced back as far as 100,000 years.  Being exceptionally tough it was originally used for carving tools and weapons.

In relation to rocks and minerals toughness and hardness are not the same.  Jade is tough because of its tightly interlocking crystal structure.  This makes it a difficult stone to break.  Hardness refers to the resistance of one mineral to being scratched by another.

A great deal of confusion exists in regards to jadeite and nephrite jade.  Although both materials are commonly referred to as jade, they're not the same.  Jade is a generic name whilst jadeite and nephrite are two specific varieties.

Our nephrite jade crystals are a medium sized tumbled stone. Size can vary from piece to piece.
