Natural Malachite Tumbled Stones
Malachite crystals in larger sizes, carefully chosen for our collection of rocks and minerals.
Malachite is a very soft mineral that must be handled carefully. Being so soft makes it difficult to tumble, so it's common for stones to have minor imperfections.
Most of the world's tumbled malachite is produced in industrial-sized rock tumblers. Some stones (mainly those processed in India and China) are cut and polished by hand. Because this popular green mineral is an ore of copper, its dust is toxic, which further complicates the polishing process.
Although malachite can be highly polished, minor abrasions or imperfections are often present. If these don't occur while stones are being tumbled, they will almost certainly happen during transportation, which covers vast distances.
The price of malachite has risen sharply over the past twelve months, although the exact reason for this remains unclear. At the same time, the quality, particularly of tumbled stones, isn’t as good as it once was.
Our current stones, which although very nice, are a standard grade, yet cost significantly more than higher-grade stones that we’ve sourced in the past. This could be because they're from sustainably sourced malachite, which drives up the price.
These malachite crystals are slightly larger-sized tumbled stones, but size can vary from piece to piece. We also have two smaller sizes.
