Chrysocolla-Shattuckite Crystals
Chrysocolla-Shattuckite grade-A tumbled stones from Namibia. These finely polished crystals exhibit exceptional colour and distinctive markings.
Chrysocolla-Shattuckite is a naturally occurring combination of two copper-rich minerals, both of which form in or close to copper deposits.
When copper ore (like
chalcopyrite or bornite) near the surface is exposed to air and water over time, it begins to break down through oxidation. This
chemical weathering process enables copper to combine with elements such as silicon, oxygen, and hydroxide, leading to the formation of secondary copper minerals, including chrysocolla and shattuckite.
Chrysocolla typically forms as crusts or fillings in cracks and cavities, often in a bright turquoise or shades of blue-green. Shattuckite forms under similar conditions but tends to be a darker, more intense blue and can appear as fibrous or compact masses.
These two minerals sometimes grow side by side or become intergrown, especially when conditions shift slowly over time. The result is a single stone that displays both minerals.
Chrysocolla-Shattuckite is most commonly found in copper-producing regions such as Arizona (USA), Namibia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico, and Peru.
These grade-A Chrysocolla-Shattuckite crystals were produced in a rock tumbler, so no two pieces are the same. Sizes vary from small to medium. If purchasing a single stone, subject to availability, we'll choose a larger size. For larger quantities, sizes will be mixed.
