Blue Lace Agate Ysterputs Mine
Blue lace agate from the Ysterputs mine, farm 254, Karasburg West Southern Namibia. Sadly this mine is now closed and has been since about 2012.
An attractive stone characterised by its blue and white wavy bands, blue lace agate is a rare variety of the mineral chalcedony.
With the deposit in Namibia no longer being mined, most stones now come from Malawi and Zambia. Many argue the stone from Ysterputs is by far the best in terms of colour and finish after having been polished.
Blue lace agate from Ysterputs is now highly sought after and extremely difficult to find. Our persistence finally paid off and we managed to find a small amount from one of our suppliers in South Africa.
Having bought a quantity of rough stone from George Swanson the long term owner of the mine in Namibia, our supplier cut it down and lightly polished each piece.
The stones we now have in our collection are really quite special. It's highly unlikely we'll be able to find blue lace agate from Namibia again.
