Fluorite is known as "the most colourful mineral in the world" due to the many colours in which it occurs. In its purest form, fluorite is colourless, but trace impurities of various minerals cause it to change colour.
Colours can be bright and vibrant, but excessive exposure to heat or sunlight can cause them to fade.
The cause of fluorite's green colour is still not fully understood. Scientists believe it may come from chromium or vanadium, but are not certain.
Fluorite is a relatively soft and fragile mineral, so it must be handled carefully.
Although classed as rainbow fluorite, the stones currently available are mostly green or lilac/purple.
These grade-A fluorite crystals are medium-sized tumbled stones, but size can vary slightly from piece to piece.
Please note that because fluorite is such a soft and fragile mineral, internal flaws and surface imperfections are not uncommon.
