Bumblebee Jasper is a relatively rare stone found near Mount Papandayan, West Java, Indonesia.
Although widely reported to come from Mount Papandayan, it's extremely rare for limestone to occur inside or adjacent to a volcano.
Mount Papandayan has most likely been associated with Bumblebee Jasper because it's a significant landmark close to where it's mined.
Scientific testing has confirmed that Bumblebee Jasper is a sedimentary rock composed of calcite.
The stone's layers are believed to consist of volcanic ash, mud and sulphur, which is the primary cause of the yellow colour.
Bumblebee Jasper also contains realgar, an arsenic sulphide.
Polished minerals are safe to handle. The danger comes from ingesting dust or microscopic fibres, which can only occur when they're being cut or polished.
