Chrysoprase Crystals Beautifully Polished

Chrysoprase is a green variety of chalcedony.  Chalcedony is a microcrystalline form of quartz.

Its tantalising colour comes from impurities of nickel.  The shade of colour can vary depending on where the stone was mined.

These chrysoprase tumbled stones were cut from material mined in South Africa.  They're a beautiful example of this highly sought after mineral.

We also have chrysoprase from Tanzania. 

With our first three photos being on a white background the colour of the stones looks slightly brighter.

The colour of chrysoprase is known to fade if exposed to sunlight for long periods of time.

Due to its colour chrysoprase is sometimes mistaken for jade.

As with all stones produced in a rock tumbler size and shape does vary from piece to piece.  These stones are classed as large but are more like a large medium.
