Howlite Polished Stones
Medium to large, large, and extra large-sized howlite tumbled stones produced from material mined in Canada.
Howlite has unfortunately become synonymous with fake turquoise because, to the untrained eye, it can resemble this highly sought-after mineral when dyed, which it often is.
Discovered in Novia Scotia in 1868 by Henry How, after whom it was named, howlite is a soft, porous mineral that must be handled carefully.
On the Mohs scale of Mineral Hardness, howlite grades 3 to 3.5, so it's not unusual for stones to have minor imperfections. This is particularly prevalent in tumbled stones because of the way they're produced, transported, and stored.
We only have a small quantity of these stones because each one was individually chosen.
They're nicely polished, so have a vitreous lustre, which makes them extremely tactile.
Although sold as large tumbled stones, we've split them into medium/large, large, and extra large.
Availability
We currently have 3 medium/large, 11 large, and 5 extra large stones.
