Finest-Grade Bumblebee Jasper Crystals
Beautifully polished Bumblebee Jasper tumbled stones from Java, Indonesia.
Bumblebee Jasper is a relatively rare stone found near Mount Papandayan, West Java, Indonesia.
Although widely reported to come from Mount Papandayan, it's extremely rare for limestone to occur inside or adjacent to a volcano.
Mount Papandayan has most likely been associated with Bumblebee Jasper because it's a significant landmark close to where the stone is mined.
Scientific analysis of Bumblebee Jasper has shown that it's limestone composed primarily of calcite.
The stone's layers are believed to consist of volcanic ash, mud and sulphur, which is the primary cause of the yellow colour.
Bumblebee Jasper also contains realgar, which is an arsenic sulphide.
Polished minerals are safe to handle. The danger comes from ingesting dust or microscopic fibres, which can only occur when the stone is being cut or polished.
These Bumblebee Jasper crystals are the finest grade available. With Bumblebee Jasper being almost completely mined out, finding stones of this grade is not easy.
They're classed as medium-sized tumbled stones, but having been produced in a rock tumbler (as opposed to being cut and polished by hand), size does vary from piece to piece.
