Bloodstone Tumbled Stones - Grade A
Bloodstone is a dark green variety of microcrystalline quartz (chalcedony) with distinctive reddish-brown iron oxide inclusions.
This natural mineral, which can take on a high polish, is used for decorative purposes and its metaphysical healing properties.
In the first century AD, bloodstone was said to preserve health and offer protection against deception. During the Middle Ages, it was widely used for sculptures that depicted flogging, whipping, lashing and martyrdom.
The red inclusions were likened to blood, hence were associated with the blood of Christ. Therefore, bloodstone was associated with the church and given religious importance.
Despite the red inclusions being a defining feature of bloodstone, the finest grade tumbled stones tend to have a more uniform base colour and fewer visible inclusions.
These highly polished, grade-A bloodstone crystals are a medium-sized tumbled stone, but as with all stones produced in rock tumbler, size can vary from piece to piece.
We also have bloodstone crystals in a larger size.
