The colour in fluorite is delicate and can fade when exposed to heat or UV light.
Some decorative material from China is heated so the colour begins to fade. This lightens deeper shades of red and pink which makes the mineral more translucent. These stones are usually sold as "Candy" or "Watermelon" fluorite.
Fluorite is a relatively soft and fragile mineral so must be handled carefully. It chips and fractures easily so internal fractures and minor surface imperfections are not uncommon.
