Beautiful Angelite Crystal Sphere
Medium-sized angelite sphere cut from material mined in Peru.
Angelite is a registered trade name for blue anhydrite, but only blue anhydrite from Peru. Stone mined elsewhere should not be labelled angelite.
The name 'anhydrite' comes from the Greek word meaning 'without water,' referring to its crystal structure, which contains no water molecules. When exposed to water or high humidity, angelite (blue anhydrite) gradually becomes gypsum.
Gypsum can convert back to anhydrite under specific conditions, such as in dry, high-temperature environments.
This beautifully polished sphere makes a striking display piece. Angelite is a soft stone, so it must be handled carefully.
