Beautiful Angelite Crystals from Peru
Angelite is a trade name for the blue variety of the mineral anhydrite. Although it occurs in several colours, only the blue variety, if mined in Peru, is known as Angelite.
Anhydrite is a form of calcium sulphate that occurs naturally in anhydrous (without water) and hydrated (with water) forms. The hydrated variety, known as gypsum, is the main ingredient of plaster. When mixed with water, gypsum hardens due to the process of crystallisation.
Anhydrite comes from the Greek 'anhydrous', meaning 'without water'.
Angelite is soft and fragile and must not be allowed to get wet. With exposure to moisture, Angelite gradually degrades into gypsum.
If storing angelite in a cabinet or display case, it's a good idea to leave a silica gel sachet close by.
These Angelite crystals are extra-large-sized tumbled stones.
We also have Angelite in a medium size.
