Iridescent Labradorite Pendant

When choosing labradorite for our collection we try to opt for the finest grade stones.  This is because lower grades don't always exhibit the same quality of iridescence.

This translucent labradorite cabochon shows magnificent blue colour as light hits the stone from certain angles.

When iridescence is not visible it has a dark greyish-green colour. 

What makes labradorite even more fascinating is that it's also translucent.  In our last photo the pendant has been positioned in front of a bright light.

The beautifully polished gemstone has been mounted in a fine sterling silver setting.  

Schiller or labradorescence is an optical phenomenon caused as light reflects off fibrous inclusions beneath the surface of the stone.
