Chrysocolla Cabochon Gemstone

A slightly chunkier chrysocolla cabochon from our collection of rocks and minerals.

A beautiful stone that's been well polished on the top and around the edges.  The base which is flat has only been lightly polished.

Chrysocolla is a soft mineral that must be handled carefully.  Its low hardness makes polishing tricky because it crumbles very easily.

On Mohs scale chrysocolla grades 2 to 2.5.  To put that into perspective it's about the same hardness as a fingernail.

Chrysocolla occurs in and around copper mines and is often found close to deposits of malachite.

Chrysocolla should not be allowed to get wet.
