Cut Moldavite Pendant in Sterling Silver
Rare moldavite gemstone mounted as a necklace pendant in a fine sterling silver setting.
This piece looks chunkier in our photo due to the angle at which it was taken. Please be sure to check the measurements.
Moldavite is a tektite which is a natural glass.
It was created following an impact from a meteorite.
The impact is believed to have taken place around fifteen million years ago. There's only a limited amount of moldavite left available in the earth. It's in short supply which means it's expensive.
In recent years there's been a surge of interest in this material for it's metaphysical healing properties.
Not only has this pushed prices up dramatically but there's now a huge amount of fake moldavite in circulation.
It can be extremely difficult to confirm whether moldavite that's been well produced is real or fake.
Rough moldavite has a unique appearance and texture. Some of the fake material is easy to identify but other stones can be far more convincing.
With it being a natural glass it is not crystalline. In some but not all material tiny air bubbles can be seen. Some moldavite being produced in China now features similar looking bubbles.
To be honest if you buy a well manufactured moldavite stone, the only way you'll know for certain whether it's fake is through expert analysis or gemological testing.
The problem is that when fake material floods the market in such abundance it's inevitable that a few stones will slip through the net.
We purchased these cut moldavite stones in 2004. At this time moldavite was just beginning to appear on the market. Thankfully it was long before fake moldavite started being produced.
This moldavite pendant comes with a fine sterling silver snake chain.
