Lapis Lazuli Top-Grade Raw Stones
Raw lapis lazuli from northeastern Afghanistan.
These top-quality rough stones boast incredible colour. We've been searching for lapis lazuli of this grade for some time, but the price has kept us from buying it until now.
Although often described as a mineral, lapis lazuli is a metamorphic rock. Lapis is composed of several minerals, including sodalite, lazurite, pyrite, diopside, mica, and calcite. The golden specs of pyrite and rich blue colour come from the mineral lazurite.
Lapis lazuli has been mined in Badakhshan Province, northeastern Afghanistan, for at least 6,500 years. These mines are some of the oldest in the world.
The colour of these rough lapis lazuli stones is entirely natural. They have not been heated or enhanced in any way.
We have a large quantity, so it's not possible to photograph every stone individually. Some are being sold by the piece, others by weight. The stones in listings marked 'Premium' are particularly unique or exceptional.
Bear in mind this lapis lazuli is rough stone.
