Stunning Emerald Necklace on White Gold
A breathtaking emerald necklace featuring translucent cut emeralds from Pakistan. The lobster clasp and rings for fastening are eighteen carat white gold.
The emeralds are strung on a fine silicone thread which is more resilient than cotton which is often used for this style of necklace.
With each emerald being faceted the necklace sparkles beautifully as it reflects light. Sadly it's not easy to capture "sparkle" in a photograph and it's the sparkle that brings this emerald necklace to life.
Emeralds are generally small and heavily included. Large or flawless emeralds are incredibly rare. Surface reaching fissures and fractures often cause stones to break very easily. For this reason emeralds tend to be treated to fill cracks and to improve clarity.
Emerald is the green variety of the mineral beryl. Blue beryl is aquamarine, pink is morganite. Stones with a greenish-yellow or golden-yellow colour are known as heliodor. Colourless beryl mainly when cut as a gemstone is known as goshenite.
Impurities of chromium and vanadium are the reason emerald is green.
The length of this emerald necklace is 42.5 centimetres when fastened using the first ring. By using the last ring it can be extended to 44 centimetres. The diameter of each emerald is approximately 1 millimetre.
