Radiant Chrysocolla Lightly Polished
Three striking pieces of chrysocolla from our collection of crystals rocks and minerals.
The colour of these stones is quite magnificent but with chrysocolla being incredibly soft it should be handled as little as possible.
Chrysocolla frequently occurs in and around copper mines. It's usually found close to deposits of malachite.
On Mohs scale of mineral hardness chrysocolla grades 2 to 2.5. To put that into perspective, it's only slightly harder than the mineral talc and about the same hardness as a fingernail.
These lightly polished chrysocolla stones come from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This material is a minor ore of copper which forms from water that contains silica or silicon dioxide.
When combined with quartz chrysocolla can be slightly harder but these pieces have a high purity so are really quite soft.
Although chrysocolla is used for its healing properties some pieces such as these are not ideal because with excessive handling they're likely to become damaged. The chrysocolla stone in the centre is more fragile than the two pieces either side of it.
All three have a wonderfully silky-smooth texture.
In the dropdown list the chrysocolla stone on the left is number one.
