Red Calcite Rough Stones
Striking red calcite rough stones, individually selected for our collection of rocks and minerals.
Their deep reddish-brown colour comes from natural iron oxide impurities.
Calcite is a soft and fragile mineral, grading just 3 on the Mohs scale. Rough stones like this are often coated with a fine layer of colourless resin, which helps protect them from flaking and crumbling. It also gives the stones a slightly glossy appearance.
This red calcite was mined in Mexico.
Composed of calcium carbonate, calcite reacts with acid and will fizz due to the release of carbon dioxide.
