Beautiful amethyst from our exciting collection of rocks and minerals. Although these crystals may look very similar each one is unique in its own way. The characteristic all three have in common is a slight variation in colour.
The colour of amethyst can vary from the most subtle shade of lilac to a deep shade of purple.
Catherine the Great was fond of amethyst and amassed a large collection from the Ural Mountains in Russia. Wallis Simpson was also a fan and was often seen wearing an amethyst, turquoise and diamond necklace designed by Cartier. Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall has also been seen wearing an amethyst and pearl necklace that once belonged to the Queen Mother.
The colour of amethyst is sensitive to sunlight and heat. If exposed to either for any length of time the colour will slowly fade. It may even turn yellow or brown.
