Colourful and incredibly tactile, polished chevron amethyst slices from South Africa. Sizes vary from piece to piece and although well polished, some do have broken edges. This is the way they were produced and is not the result of damage.
This distinctive variety of quartz is also known as banded amethyst although the name tends to only really be used in the UK. The term chevron comes from the markings which often resemble chevrons.
A beautifully translucent mineral that combines amethyst and milky white quartz also known as snow quartz. The two colours are the result of colour zoning which is very common in amethyst. Minerals with this characteristic exhibit different shades of colour within the same crystal. In amethyst although the difference is usually very subtle, chevron or banded amethyst is the most extreme example.
These polished banded amethyst slices could be used creatively to make an eye-catching display. Do bear in mind however that amethyst fades if exposed to bright sunlight for any length of time. Excessive heat can also cause the colour to change so any kind of amethyst should be kept away from heat and bright sunlight.
