Thulite is a relatively rare, pink to reddish variety of the mineral zoisite, mainly used for carving and gemstones.
Although found primarily in Norway, where it’s recognised as the national stone, thulite can also be found in a few other countries.
Thulite forms in metamorphic rocks rich in manganese, often alongside quartz and epidote.
It's believed to be named after the ancient island of Thule, first mentioned by ancient Greek explorer Pytheas.
