Ruby Fuchsite - AAA-Grade Stones from India
The finest-grade ruby fuchsite tumbled stones from Karnataka, India.
Although ruby fuchsite is found in a few countries around the world, it mostly comes from India.
Ruby fuchsite was named after German chemist and mineralogist Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs. His surname is pronounced 'fooks,' so the correct pronunciation is fooksite.
For reasons I can't explain, ruby fuchsite is often misspelt 'fuschite.'
Fuchsite, a chromium-rich mica, is the green matrix. The distinctive red colouration is red corundum, which is ruby.
Ruby fuchsite is often mislabelled as ruby zoisite, which can look very similar, but they're different rocks composed of different minerals. Both feature red corundum in a predominantly green matrix.
Lower-grade ruby in fuchsite is widely available and typically less expensive than ruby zoisite. However, higher-quality stones with strong colour and good contrast are far less common.
These ruby fuchsite tumbled stones are a size medium, although some are slightly larger.
