Rhodonite Crystals from Russia

A slightly smaller sized rhodonite tumbled stone from Russia.

The black markings in rhodonite come from manganese oxides.  These impurities can occur as dendrites, fracture fillings or be part of the host rock.

Individual crystals of rhodonite are rare and highly sought after.  The crystal habit of this mineral is usually massive.  This means crystals grow tightly together as one large mass.
