Citron Chrysoprase aka Nickeloan Magnesite
Citron chrysoprase and lemon chrysoprase are trade names for nickeloan magnesite.
Found in Western Australia, this natural stone is a
nickel-rich variety of magnesite.
Although most magnesite from Australia is white, the presence of nickel causes the stone's subtle lime green colour.
The name citron chrysoprase has led some to believe it's
a type of chrysoprase. This is not correct. Chrysoprase is a
variety of chalcedony whose green colour is caused by nickel.
Citron chrysoprase, although also coloured by nickel, is a variety of magnesite. Magnesite and chalcedony are not the same mineral.
Nickeloan magnesite or citron chrysoprase, as it's more widely known, can often be found in the same deposit as chrysoprase. Some chrysoprase can even be a combination of the two minerals.
