Beautiful Quartz Crystal Ball
A magnificent quartz crystal ball full of curious inclusions and exceptional crystallisation, cut and polished by hand.
This crystal ball was cut from natural quartz, not glass or lead crystal, which are often used as cheaper alternatives.
Many crystal balls are coated with a fine layer of titantium dioxide, which creates iridescence. Although it can look impressive, it's not natural.
Low-grade quartz crystal balls can be coated in this way to enhance iridescence, while coating a 'crystal ball' made from glass or lead crystal will produce iridescence.
A natural crystal ball will rarely be completely transparent or inclusion-free. This is because it would be incredibly difficult to find a flawless piece of quartz to use for this purpose, and even if one were to be found, it's unlikely to be used for a crystal ball.
It's worth bearing in mind that most crystal balls are mass-produced in China
This large crystal ball is a magnificent piece. It does have two very minor surface imperfections.
