Picture jasper is a type of mudstone. This material is made up primarily of clay and silt sized particles too small to be seen with the naked eye.
Whilst mudstone may not sound like the kind of stone you'd want to wear, shades of colour and the range of patterns it which it can be found make it very attractive. Being a fine grained material enables it to be well polished.
